TsunamiTwo years on from the Asian Tsunami that devastated many communities, Nokia has announced the launch of several new projects to help young people in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia with training and new skills. The initiative is designed to help young people find jobs or set up small businesses, building long-term livelihoods for themselves and their families.

Indonesia plans to export mobilesIndonesia is assessing possibilities to export cellular phone handsets for the first time, targeting neighboring Malaysia and the Philippines, a report said last week.

Local firm PT Inti Plasma plans to sell the code division multiple access (CDMA) cell phone to the neighbors beginning next year, offering the Nexian brand, reports Xinhua News Agency.

Opera MobileOpera and Samsung Electronics have signed an agreement with Opera Software to deliver Opera Mobile on Samsung mobile handsets.

Opera Mobile is Opera Software's standards-compliant Web browser for advanced mobile phones. The browser uses Opera's Small Screen Rendering technology to reformat Web pages for viewing on a small screen and allows users to navigate Web pages with intuitive vertical scrolling.

It has 2.8-inch 260k colors 240×400 pixels Widescreen LCD, built-in music player supporting MP3, WMA and AAC, Voice recognition, InfraRed, FM Radio, a Full Browser which enables viewing of Microsoft’s Word, Excel and powerpoint files.

The NTT DoCoMo FOMA/Mitsubishi D903i has a one-touch open button which can open up the slider. There are 4 colors for you to choose from.

Treo Hackers Bump Up Storage

Palm Treo 7008Users that have been hacking away at Palm's Treo lineup have found a way to enable SDHC support. SDHC is an add-on to the popular Secure Digital (SD) card standard. It dramatically increases the maximum capacity of SD memory cards, doubling the existing 4 GB capacity to 8 GB (and higher as newer cards are released).

By tapping files from the new Treo 680 on Cingular, which has SDHC support, users have been successful in adding SDHC support to the Treo 650 and Treo 700p. Currently this is not possible on WIndows Mobile Treo units, as an SDHC driver is not yet available.

Cingular 3G Coverage in More than 160 Markets

CingularCingular today said its 3G mobile broadband network now extends from San Francisco to New York, and from Chicago to Dallas, making advanced wireless services available in more than 160 markets, including most of the top 100 major cities in the country.

The company's 3G network offers advanced wireless services, such as viewing video clips, and enhances existing wireless services by making them run faster. Customers can now download a game or ringtone, or access e-mail, in a fraction of the time it used to take. Additionally, Cingular customers using a 3G handset can access all the company's data services whenever they're connected to the Cingular network.
