ImageNew E-series phones manufactured by Nokia are to be launched in Singapore in May. The handsets are intended to bring the power of mobility to office bound workers. The Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia E70 support today’s most popular and newly announced corporate mobile email solutions like BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink from Good Technology, Inc., IntelliSync Wireless Email, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail and Visto Mobile. As the new phones are targeted at business users the E60 and E70 phones will be sold through local systems integrators rather than traditional channels while the E61 will be available from retail stores. There is no information as to whether the E60 and E70 to be sold through traditional retailers.

E-series devices are based on the latest edition of the Series 60 Platform, the world’s leading smartphone software platform. Series 60 3rd Edition combined with Symbian OS v. 9.1 are used to enrich application base in all three handsets Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia E70. They include a variety of GSM frequencies and 3G (WCDMA) cellular network support for seamless roaming across different countries, as well as a range of local connectivity options such as WLAN, Bluetooth, Infrared and USB 2.0. Additional memory for the E61 and Nokia E70 phones comes in the form of the miniSD card slots while the E60 features an MMC memory expansion capability.

The addition of email capabilities and support for Java script is part of the convergence of data and mobile applications to meet the demands of the modern office worker. To ensure that the phones are compatible with whatever applications the modern and mobile worker might use and need, Nokia has worked with technology partners like Symantec, Check Point, Lotus Notes, SAP and many more to ensure compatibility. More and more office workers are becoming receptive to the power that such mobile devices bring Tan said, quoting a 2004 IDC report that said that 60% of respondents in South East Asia were happy with the changes that mobility brought to their work and personal lives.
