Sprint announced the availability of the mobile version of Gmail, Google's popular email service. Gmail for mobile devices will be available to Sprint data customers at no additional charge in two forms: a new downloadable Java application and access through a WAP site. Both can be reached directly from the Sprint PCS Vision(SM) or Sprint Power Vision(SM) home page.
The new Gmail application gives users fast, rich and synchronized access to Gmail from select Sprint phones. Once installed, users are just moments away from reading, replying to, archiving and searching through their Gmail messages. With Gmail for mobile devices, Sprint customers can even reply-by-call to people whose phone numbers are stored in their Gmail account. The application can be downloaded now on most Java-enabled Sprint phones. For mobile phone users who don't have Java-enabled phones, Sprint will also provide easy access to the Gmail for mobile devices WAP site in the coming weeks. A link to the Gmail WAP site will be found on the Sprint PCS Vision(SM) or Sprint Power Vision(SM) home page. The WAP version offers similar Gmail functionality through Sprint phone Web browsers.
