Mobilebee.com announces immediate availability of Samsung D600, an upgrade to a highly popular Samsung D500.
Despite its rising star in the eyes of European handset buyers, Samsung was mostly known as a maker of small handsets with brilliant screens and mediocre feature sets - until last year. With the introduction of the exquisitely designed SGH-D500, the maker suddenly found itself with a handset truly made for the spotlight - and now, it's following up on the success with the introduction of the SGH-D600, shown for the first time at this year's CeBIT fair.
With a slightly more conservative design, the SGH-D600 remains an attractive slider, very much in the vein of its popular predecessor. Its feature set has received a solid makeover, however, with its integrated camera being bumped to 2 Megapixels, up from 1.3, as well as the introduction of a stunning QVGA display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 262K colours.
Feeling every bit as comfortable and solid as the SGH-D500, the SGH-D600 retains the same sliding feature as that of its predecessor, and makes only minor changes to the overall design of the body. The keypad remains ergonomically sound and provides good tactile feedback, and
A tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz handset with GPRS, the SGH-D600 disappointingly does not support EDGE, which Samsung seems content with leisurely skipping over in favour of its rock solid range of 3G handsets. Still, users have a good range of connectivity options including Bluetooth, USB and PictBridge support, and even TV output.
Like many other Samsung handsets, the SGH-D600 is equipped with an audio player supporting MP3, AAC and AAC+ formats, as well as dual stereo speakers with virtual surround sound technology and the option of memory expansion via TransFlash memory cards, shortly to be known as microSD cards.
Added memory will likely also prove handy in storing video, as the SGH-D600 records in either MPEG4 or H.263 format. Other highlights include voice recognition, along with an e-mail client, support for MMS, Java and WAP 2.0, as well as a file viewer.
