VoiceEngine Mobile now supports Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile 5.0, and includes voice quality enhancement (VQE) and encryption features, according to the company. GIPS says that VoiceEngine Mobile's VQE technology implements noise suppression and automatic gain control (ACG) functions that reduce echo and background noise while adjusting speech levels, thereby creating a "consistent and comfortable listening experience for mobile users." VoiceEngine Mobile also supports the Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP), as well as the latest version of the company's NetEQ technology. The latter is described as "an advanced jitter buffer and packet loss concealment module that dramatically improves sound quality and minimizes latency in IP telephony systems." GIPS says it provides an application programming interface (API) and developer tools that help developers integrate its VoIP technologies with a range of platforms and applications. Supported software platforms include desktop Windows, Windows Mobile, Linux, and Symbian OS. "Global IP Sound is aware of the challenges that developers of VoIP applications for smartphones and PDAs face," said Roar Hagen, founder and CTO. "Our new releases focus on these challenges by handling the most common problems found in mobile devices such as background noise and echo."
