Windows Mobile Office 12 beta rumored near |

Microsoft is rumored to be readying a beta 1 version of Office 12 for Windows Mobile. The product will reportedly consist of viewers for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with limited editing capabilities for Word and Excel, plus "OneNote Mobile," a new mobile version of Microsoft's OneNote note-ta
king application.
Office Mobile supports devices running Microsoft's Windows Mobile Smartphone and Pocket PC software platforms. According to Microsoft-Watch's Mary Jo Foley, partners close to Microsoft have said that Mobile Office 12 will include DRM (digital rights management) support. Additionally, the default file format for the mobile suite will soon migrate to XML, although that change may occur somewhat later than the initial release, the sources said.
OneNote Mobile will include note taking and viewing functions. "And because it will be phone-based, it will be able to take advantage of built-in camera phones, allowing users to snap photos of whiteboards, documents, or other source information, and then annotate and share that information from a smart phone or PDA," according to Foley's sources.
Microsoft declined to comment on the rumors, Foley said. |
