Remaining the grand of mobile market Nokia managed preserving the classic appearance of their handsets for a long time. However the times change and the Finns started manufacturing clamshells, sliders and now came up to rotators. And what else but the glamour handset is to test the new formfactor. So appeared Nokia 7370 one of the three models in L'amour series.

Appearance and design

As a part of L'amour series Nokia 7370 is made of different materials: mat and gloss plastic, metal and leather all that with fabric label. The handsets are available in two color variants: gravel and dark brown. We dealt with the latter but both of them look gorgeously.

Due to small dimensions and rounded shape the phone is very handy to hold. It opens easily with the help of one hand only and in whole while working with the handset you will rarely need the second hand. The phone opens semi-automatically that is you are to rotate the upper part slightly and the spring will do the rest. The same goes for the reverse process. It should be noted that you can close the phone only in the reverse to opening direction that is the angle of the upper part rotating is 180 and in the upper point there is a stop.

In the closed state you can do next to nothing for the upper part has no keys. The assembling is of high quality. The owner might like to carry the novelty on the neck so there is a special eye for a string.

the sales package includes a special soft cover for the handset with velvet inside to wipe off the fingerprints when you put the phone in. The outer keys and the label are blue.

The Ok key is also blue and the outer part of the rear cover is trimmed with leather.

The case is quite resistant to scratches and it is not that easy to damage it. So the phone is quite beautiful and unusual and besides handy to use

Keypad

The keypad is large scaled and pleasant to touch. It is made of glossy plastics and becomes available once the rotator is opened. The numbers and letters are seen clearly both in darkness and in the daylight as the backlight is bright enough. The navigation is done with the help of 4 positioned navigation key, OK key and programmable soft keys. As for the additional buttons there are three of them: volume control, power, camera key.

All three of them are not very handy and rather tight but they won't get pressed in pocket or in a handbag.

Display

The display is TFT with the resolution 240x320 pixels which is rarely high for Nokia. It supports 262K colors so the image is quite effective. Direct sunshine did not prevent us from reading even the smallest text on the screen. The examples of pictures are given below:

Functionality

Camera

The camera is 1.3Mp with 8x digital zoom and video shooting possibility.

It is situated in the rear part over the battery module. It is edged with a hardly noticeable blue line to match the external means of control. On the battery lid on one metallic bar with the Nokia label there is a self-portrait mirror. Camera mode is triggered either through menu or with the help of the camera key. You can choose quality, packing and night mode before taking a picture. The pictures are of middle quality though not the worst of the kind. And so is the video.

In whole such camera will do for a glamour phone.

Menu:

Like other non smartphones from Nokia the handset is done using popular 40 platform. But the content has changed considerably.

Like other non smartphones from Nokia the handset is done using popular 40 platform. But the content has changed considerably.

Nokia N70 can work without SIM card.

The principle of menu organization is similar to the previous Nokia handsets. But there are some changes.

Phonebook

Comprises up to 1000 contacts and SIM-card memory. One entry can be ascribed unrestricted number of phone numbers, e-mail, Internet page, home address, short note, and a picture which is nice. A bit disappointing is the fact that a personal ringtone can not be ascribed though this problem can be solved by group menu (the number of groups is up to 25 all available for editing).

Entertainments and applications

Java games are represented quite scantily: only one shooter Phantom Spidbut this is a 3D one.

Besides games there are a lot of Java applications: a scientific calculator with trigonometric functions, unit converter, and world time. But we've seen that already the new function is Sensor allowing to exchange messages through Bluetooth which becomes very popular. Also there is Size converter allowing to navigate through clothes size of different standards. You can add your own applixations using WAP, Bluetooth or data cable. So we successfully installed Opera browser.

The phone can playback MP3 files but with the memory capacity of 10Mb it can hardly be used as an MP3 player so you can only use MP3 for ringtones. That is why there is no player interface. But the radio is full fledged and besides high quality. If you don't want to use headset you can listen to it through stereo loudspeakers.

Slots

There are only two slots and both are situated at the bottom panel of the handset. The first is Pop-port for a data cable and active accessories, the second is for a charger of a new (slim) kind.

Memory and connectivity

The integrated memory makes 10Mb. The memory state can be viewed in Gallery menu.

The connectivity is provided by USB and Bluetooth interfaces. To browse Internet you can use WAP and both GPRS and EDGE.

Time of work

Nokia 7370 has a new type battery BL-4B 700mAh.

On intensive use the battery drains on the third day, provided you talk 15-20 minutes, listen 1hour to radio per day the battery will drain only on the fourth day.

Pluses:
  • Stylish unusual case
  • Great display
  • Not bad functionality for the handset of the kind
  • Good ergonomics

Minuses:
  • Small memory capacity
  • Only one integrated game
  • Not very handy to close with one hand

Conclusions and impressions:

The phone is intended mainly for ladies but unlike some other models it does not have shimmering mirrors, pastes and glamour labels which is one of its merits for not all like pathos and shimmering. Besides Nokia 7370 has its special charm.
