The elegant Nokia 7390, Nokia's first 3G fashion phone, draws its design inspiration from tribal art and ethnic decoration. The result - a beautifully designed, intelligently considered and exceptionally crafted mobile phone, in a palate of colours and textures to meet every desire. Finding inspiration in the faded luxury of grand architecture, the Nokia 7390 model from the L'Amour Collection will be appreciated as much for its exotic design as well as its impressive sophisticated set of features.
This sleek, elegant fold phone, consummately blends precision technology with groundbreaking design. As Nokia's first 3G fashion phone, the Nokia 7390 combines exquisite materials and design innovation within a fully featured phone. The 3 megapixel camera and WCDMA high-speed connectivity is subtly hidden within ceramic-inspired shell and leather panels. Ideal for a 24/7 lifestyle, the Nokia 7390 is available in two colours, a Bronze Black version provides a masculine feel, echoing cigar parlours and oak-panelled studies of a by-gone era. The Powder Pink model is a daring combination of ceramic white and powder pink, a colour palate currently found on fashion catwalks and furniture fairs. Appearance and design Dimension: 90 x 47 x 15 mm; weight: 115g.
The form of the Nokia 7390 remains modern, round and pure. An earthy palate of colour and traditional materials, updates the bohemian feel of the earlier collection. Aspects of embroidery, 3D appliqué, ceramic tiling and other traditional decoration are refined and modernised - resulting in beautifully embossed leather finishes and graphics which are sublime yet eclectic. The 7390 weights 115 grams, which is OK for such solution, and measures 90х47х19 mm in size. The handset’s dimensions are slightly bigger than average for this form-factor - squared shape with slightly rounded edges has something to do with that as well. The 7390 slips easily into a bag or a pocket – both variants are convenient enough. The developers have also armed the handset with the holes for a carrying strap that are mounted on the upper rim. Keypad
The external display comes complete with three shortcut keys that help you navigate between three functions – camera, music player and radio. And since these keys are quite sensitive, a keylock option has been included to avoid any accidental touches. On the whole, handling the keypad brings about only positive emotions, the navigation pad doesn’t let me to find anything to be unsatisfied with. All keys are lit in soft white, which is well-visible in a dark room. The buttons themselves are quite bulky and have soft stroke, which makes them easy to manage. The rubber pad above the earpiece prevents the keypad from touching the displayed while the handset is closed. Additional buttons
The power button and Infrared window are mounted on the left side-plate, while volume rocker key and dedicated camera key are located on the right. Such layout originates from landscape-orientated camera mode at closed handset, which means shooting becomes that much easier. Sizes, Ports and Slots
This handset comes equipped with miniUSB (USB 2.0) socket that replaces Pop Port. Right here you will find a 2.5 mm audio jack as well, which is compatible with 3.5 mm adapter, allowing for plugging in custom earphones. Charger’s socket is located on the left side. Display TFT, 240х320, 16.7 million colors The external display features a resolution of 128x160 pixels (21х27 mm, 1.36 inches) and shows up to 262 K colors (TFT). On incoming calls the image assigned to a contact takes up the entire screen. For the external display the user can set up a wallpaper and changing all major settings. The main screen is similar to that of Nokia 6131 with a diagonal of 2.2 inches and physical size of 33x46 mm (resolution 240х320 pixels). The display can hold up to 8 text (biggest possible font size) and 3 service lines, but unlike Nokia 6131 there is something wrong with brightness – the screens looks dim, though one glance worths many words. Traditionally, brightness of both screens cannot be adjusted. Winding up, here we have a truly top-notch display, one of the market’s best offerings, which performs worse in the sense of brightness and thus leaves less favorable impression. Camera 3Mpx, Video, ZOOm,
Being pretty is not a crime especially when you have the substance to go along with it. In the case of the 7390, it has everything from a 3-megapixel camera to 3G connectivity.
The first thing that caught my interest was the 3-megapixel autofocus camera.
However, it is going to be tricky to take a self portrait because the internal lens is used only for video calls and there is no mirror for the main camera. The good thing about the 7390’s camera is ability to take pictures even when the device is closed, however the external screen is not of much help here due to putting up poor preview. The camera is just about good enough for the point and shoot photography. Although it has autofocus, there's nothing much you can do with the ISO settings and its macro shots could have been better. Menu All default handset’s features such as phonebook, organizer etc. are pretty much the same for all S40 3rd edition-based devices.
The main Menu has 11 icons that can be displayed in list, in table with details or without them. As usual, L’Amour Collection offers lots of themes and skins – all of them feature geometrical patterns and look extremely fetching. The handset offers three games - Snake III (3D), Pro Snowboard (3D, adopted from Sony Ericsson’s phones released in 2004) and Music Guess, which is a truly music-aimed application – the program picks random tracks out of the general list and during playback you need to guess what song is playing. The applications are: World Time, Nokia Sensor (excellent offering for the youth, which is not so popular at the moment in light of the fact only a few devices have this function, yet it has great potential). The last application on the list is Size Converter. The size converter helps especially when you're buying apparel that follows the sizing convention of their country of origin. For instance, a UK dress size 10is actually a US dress size eight. Though it's handy to have, I found it unreliable especially if you're smaller than a size eight. Another great feature this phone has is Music player. The player found on the 7390 is a replica of that found on Nokia 5300, with the only difference lying in appearance. When you are at the phone’s standby screen, the player displays track’s title and artist on the screen. When you are at the phone’s standby screen, the player displays track’s title and artist on the screen. The display offers information on current track, album and artist. The navigation pad is bound up with standard functions (track switch, rewind, and stop). Progressive rewind feature is missing on the 7390 – you can fast-forward tracks at standard 5 sec. pitch, which is completely out of use with big files (audio-books or something like that). Imaging 3 Megapixel Camera Autofocus Flash VGA Camera Video Player (3GPP, H263 & MPEG4) Video Recorder Video Streaming Video Calling Animated Wallpapers Screensavers Messaging SMS (Text Messaging) MMS (Multimedia Messaging) SMS Distribution List Email (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP & APOP) Email with Attachment Support Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging Instant Messaging Sound FM Radio Digital Music Player (MP3, AAC, M4A, eAAC+ & AAC+) Ringtones (MP3, MPEG4, AAC, eAAC+, WMA & AMR Voice) Polyphonic MIDI Ringtones (64 Voice) Video Ringtones Voice Recorder Voice Dialling Vibrating Alert Entertainment Music Quiz Game Snake Game 3D Race Game Java™ Games Downloadable Java™ Games Organiser Phone Book Calendar Notes Alarm Clock To Do List Calculator Stopwatch
Connectivity 3G Infra Red Bluetooth™ EDGE GPRS HSCSD Network Tri Band (GSM 900, GSM 1800 & GSM 1900) WCDMA Internet WAP XHTM Memory & Talk Time 128 Mbytes Memory plus MicroSD™ Memory Option 2.5 Hours Talk Time 220 Hours Standby Weight & Size 115 g 90 x 47 x 19 mm Pluses Stereo speakers 3-megapixel Camera Good battery life Elegant design Minuses Limited internal memory hard to flip open with one hand Conclusion My first gripe is that the phone takes a while to spring into life once you flip it open. It's also a bit difficult to flip it open with one hand. Perhaps I have small hands but I had to use two hands to lift it open most of the time. Another thing that bugged me a lot was the fact that I had to open the phone to read my text messages, which is a waste since the phone has such a large external screen. However, these drawbacks didn't really bother me much as the intuitive user interface, stylish design and great features more than made up for all these flaws. |
