The Motorola RAZR V3i is an extremely sleek, stylish & highly designed mobile phone. It has a sculpted metal keypad & comes in a brushed metal casing which adds to it sophisticated appearance. The RAZR V3i is very similar to the Motorola RAZR V3 but the RAZR V3i is slightly slimmer & sleeker design. The internal colour screen is large & works excellently as a full screen view finder.
Appearance and design Dimension: 98 x 53 x 14 mm; weight: 100g. Yes, this phone is sexy. Very sexy. In fact, many of you who may be considering this phone may be turned off by its seemingly purple color. This color is very, very tricky- it is different in different shades of light. In very bright light, you can see the purple coming out- in normal light, it is gray, dark gray, shiny, and very flashy. The color coordination is quite bad but I personally think that it looked great in the end- the shiny front cover steals all the attention, and the keypad’s color mixes well with the purple. All in all, the phone looks very futuristic (blue glowing moto logo), and performs futuristically. The previous v3 had an all anodized aluminum body except for the bottom part of the phone. The v3i’s material is some sort of a metal+plastic hybrid save for the front shiny cover which is engraved metal with the rings (which makes it very flashy, and looks much better in person). The reason why I find it a pro for this surplus of plastic is that it doesn’t show fingerprints that much, and your phone doesn’t feel like it just came out of the fridge when you pick it up. With the v3, it was always cold because it was metal, and when it was in your pocket it came out very hot (because it absorbed all the heat). The v3i’s material is perfect and maintains room temperature, and thus when you pick up the phone, moisture from your fingers do not stick to it. Oh, and the build quality is excellent. The phone does not feel cheap at all. It looks like its worth the money, definitely. Another small change that not many have talked about is the fact that motorola got rid of those vents on the side of the screen below the volume and smart keys. The metal from the v3 one would scratch the skin off on your fingers if you ever flipped with two fingers- and was very annoying. There are no openings in the body of the new v3i- build quality- excellent, yet again. Keypad
The number pad holds no surprises. The RAZR-style method of separating keys with a barely raised bar of colour is intact, and the buttons are all large and easy to find, though if you want a really tactile feel to key presses you should look elsewhere. Between the call and end buttons sit the softkey buttons, the left one a quick key for Internet connection, and the right one for messaging. n standard Razr fashion, the navigation controls and backlit keypad buttons are completely flat with the surface of the handset, but raised ridges between the individual rows make them more tactile than on the original V3. A five-way navigation toggle doubles as a shortcut to user-defined functions. There are also some design additions. For example, a Motorola logo below the external screen glows blue when it's charging, and there are buttons on the side that control volume, launch the camera, and activate voice dialing. There's also a dedicated iTunes button on the keypad. Display 176 x 220, 262K colors
The main display of the new RAZR V3i is active. The picture got brighter and much more vivid than in the V3. The reason is Sharp is a screen supplier for the V3i, while the V3 was equipped with Toshiba's matrixes. This TFT-screen behaves well in the sun, the picture can be made out, and the text is readable. Camera 1280 x 960 (1,2Mp), flash, video recorder This model has a built-in 1.23 MP camera. It captures sound video in 3GP format in a maximum resolution of 176 x 144 pixels. Video records are limited to approximately 490 KB, which is the equivalent of about ? -minute duration and a maximum resolution of 1280 x 960. If held in a standard way, that is, as a normal mobile phone, Motorola RAZR V3i displays pictures vertically. Make sure, however, you have inserted a memory card into the device, otherwise you can only take photos in VGA resolution and lower. In RAZR V3i you will also find a few photo effects. Sizes, Ports and Slots
The V3i's 12MB of built-in memory is surprisingly small, although a microSD card slot (otherwise known as TransFlash) is located next to the battery. You have to remove the battery cover to access the memory slot, but fortunately you don't have to remove the battery as well.. Menu
The 1,000-name phone book holds six phone numbers and an e-mail address in each entry; an additional 250 fit on the SIM card. You also get photo caller ID and a choice of 12 polyphonic ring tones (we were hoping for more). Basic features include a vibrate mode, text and multimedia messaging, a calculator, a datebook, voice commands and dialing, a speakerphone, an alarm clock, and instant messaging. Higher-end offerings run the gamut from POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail support to full Bluetooth. While several new functionalities have been added, the two most worth mentioning are the iTunes and airplane modes. One of these two modes is extremely easy to figure out; even if you never actually owned an iPod as everyone knows that iTunes is Apple’s internet music service provider and program for iPod / PC / Mac transfers. Of course, this means that the V3i is compatible with the program and as a result, you can easily load up your favorite tunes and listen to them on the go, while still using your phone. Anyone who has used the Motorola ROKR will be instantly familiar with this. The layout of the iTunes mode is exactly like that on any iPod and it didn’t take me long to start listening to some music while reading my messages or browsing through the contacts. Memory & Talk Time 10 Mbytes Memory plus MicroSD (TransFlash Memory) 3.5 Hours Talk Time 200 Hours Standby Weight & Size 95 g 98 x 53 x 13.9 mm Pluses Good looking Stylish keypad Good speakerphone Photo Caller ID Minuses Outer display's protecting glass catches fingerprints Poor MP3 player Camera is terrible Phonebook is very hard to set up Conclusion This phone is for people who are an average phone user or even a business user that wants a flashy phone that has functions that would be fun and great to have. Moto tries hard to put everything in the phone and somewhat succeeds at it, except for the cons i’ve mentioned above. But it won’t fit you if you’re an avid user of cellphones and require one that gives you much more than a phone and an mp3 player (with some plus features). Remember, this is not a 3g phone so don’t expect it to do everything. If you want that, you’re better off with the v3x, which is larger and bulkier. |
