Samsung P310 Review PDF Print E-mail

Samsung P310 The super small Samsung P310 is a thin & light mobile phone which is also known as the Samsung SGH-P310 the Card Phone II, which has a revamped exterior that gets rid of the old retro calculator look of brushed aluminum, and updates the device with a matte black finish. The ultra thin casing measures 86 x 54 x 8.9 mm & weighs 85 grams. The phone comes with a large coloured screen which provides up to 262k colours on a TFT type screen.

Appearance and design
Dimension: 86 x 54 x 8,5 mm;  weight: 75 g.

Samsung’s P310 offers superior portability with its slim and wide form factor. Designers and engineers managed to trim the Card Phone II to a mere 8.5mm in thickness. The P310 shed the P300’s retro look and wrapped itself in an elegant black color. Resembling a simple and clean credit card, the P310’s modern design is sure to attract the fashion-conscious and working professionals. The exquisitely designed P310 is the perfect companion for business users who desire a stylish premium feather-light mobile to serve their needs anytime, anywhere.

It’s very comfortable in the hand – it doesn’t slip even being without the leather case. This phone has lees metal on the body that decreases the possibility to get your cheek frostbitten in winterSmile.

The phone’s ergonomics is quite reliable – no creaks, no crackles. I wouldn’t say the same about the practical part of the body – unfortunately you can see the fingerprints on the metal framingUndecided of the display.

The back battery cover is not the best as well – it scratches very easy. The battery is not common made especially for this model because standard battery just wouldn’t fit there. Putting smaller battery in this phone would mean the shorter battery life.

Keypad

The touch-sensitive buttons are mounted beneath the display, so that you will definitely be keeping on unwittingly running over the display’s edge on every press, although fingerprints are mostly invisible, therefore it doesn’t bring about any troubles. But the way the sensor works is rather fancy: in stand-by mode the touch-sensitive buttons doesn’t always respond to the touch and so you have to push the key a couple of times to make it react. My attempt to find a replacement for the soft-keys resulted in a failure – these buttons take part in most interactions with the P310. Such behavior of the soft-keys and exhausting push-it-again’s, do frustrate a lot; it appears the handset’s ergonomics was missing on the developers’ to-do list.

The keypad has also unique layout of controls with the «0» being located on the right along with “#” and “*”. he dedicated MP3 key has disappeared, reducing the total number of buttons to 18, “#” and “*” keys have been moved from the left side to the right.

The keypad itself, on the contrary, has gotten easier to use, even though the keys here are bulky and border each other. They are easy to push, thus dialing a number is mostly a breeze. The white backlighting is well-visible in different environments. The four-way navigation pad abuts the OK key mounted on the left.

Additional buttons

The P310 has only two additional buttons that are Volume button on the left side and Camera Activation button on the right. There no complaints against those buttons. With the Volume button you can change the volume of the button pressing as well as control the cursor and being in the camera mode you can rotate your picture to 90grads.

Display
TFT, 240х320, 262144 colors

The model makes use of a QVGA display (320х240 pixels, 1.9 inches, 29х38 mm), with landscape orientation. The picture outputted by the screen is very crisp and visible even in the sun, as it is powered by the TFT technology (262 K colors). Up to four text and three service lines can be displayed at a time. Due to unusual orientation, the display delivers really good experience when it comes to reading texts, nevertheless navigation through the menus is not all that good (fewer options are displayed on the lists).

Camera
1660 x 1200 (2.0 Mp), flash,  video recorder, ZOOM x 4

The tiny phone comes with an integrated 2 megapixel camera feature which comes with a built in zoom & flash feature. You can save, share & store their photos with ease on their Samsung P310. You can edit their photos & change photo settings to suit their desired finish. The phone comes with a built in video recorder & player which allows the user to capture their memories with movement.
The Camera is located on the left side of the back panel where we can also see a flash which works only while shooting. Camera activates from menu as well as by the extended pressing the Activation button on the right side of the phone.

Sizes, Ports and Slots

On the right side of the phone you can find the only slot universal for different cases: the charger and accessories. The phone has also a micro SD card slot and the memory can be expanded upto 4GB.
You can connect their mobile phone to other devices using either Bluetooth wireless technology or a USB cable. You can use Bluetooth technology to connect their P310 to any Bluetooth compatible device including PC, laptop or printer & have a wireless connection between the two devices. The Samsung P310 can be connected to a USB cable by using the phones USB port & connected to any device which has a USB port for the user to download data & transfer files between compatible devices. The phone comes with EDGE technology which allows the user to enjoy fast speed data transfers on their Samsung P310.

Menu

This menu isn’t probably as nice as in the P300. It has 9 points that can bee displayed in two different ways – icons and list.

When you enter menu it automatically shows you the last function you have addressed before. For example you selected call list in main menu, done some operations in it, and next time you enter main menu you will have it highlighted in first place. But that’s not all; once you access it again you will see that sub-menu item which was addressed last will be highlighted too. It seems to be a simple thing, but it is not present in handsets produced by any other manufacturer. I think it’s very comfortable to use.

The Samsung P310 comes with easy to access & easy to use messaging services which include SMS text messaging, MMS multimedia messaging, & email messaging service. The user can send a message complete with a photo or video recording with sound & text by using the MMS multimedia messaging service. The MMS message can be sent to any MMS compatible mobile phone contact. The user can use the email service to stay in touch with email contacts & use their inbox to receive their emails. The SMS text messaging service is quick & easy to use & allows the user to send a message with text input to any SMS text messaging contact. The P310 comes with preloaded Java™ games which the user can enjoy in their leisure time for some light entertainment.

Conclusion
Drawing the line, despite its plethora of features, the Samsung SGH-P310 is still super-thin. It might not be quite as thin as its predecessor, but it's still not what you'd call a lady phone.
Good looking, good features, and thin - a rare combination! Paint it pink, and the SGH-P310 will sell by the bucketload
Kiss!
