Google Phone Before Apple's iPhone has even hit the market, the rumor mills have been running rampant with all sorts of cell phone competition from Microsoft, Yahoo! and Google. While we have heard about a GooglePhone before -- possibly created by Samsung or HTC -- this is one of the first times that we have heard any sort of official confirmation.

And it's from the semi-reliable source of the New York Times.

According to the article, Google is not only considering a cell phone entry, but they have "gone so far as to build a prototype phone with its own software inside." Although no names are given, the Times says that they got this insider info from "one person who has seen it."
